CELEBRATE CANADA’S SESQUICENTENNIAL!
Alright, ‘Canada’s 150th anniversary’ is easier, but I just love ‘sesquicentennial’. After all, we’re headquartered in Ottawa. A little bit of pomposity is a requirement.
WHAT
Our project, Celebrating the Strength of Canada’s Diversity: Youth Engaging Youth, is anything but pompous (Even though the Project Manager may be, just a little bit). Ukrainian Canadian youth are reaching out to their peers from British Columbia to Ontario to celebrate the sesquicentennial. So far, activities range from citizenship ceremonies to nights at a drive-in, from sports competitions to art exhibits, from public performances to participation in gay pride parades. And we’re looking for more.
We’re a project of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) and are funded by Heritage Canada’s Canada 150 Fund.
WHO
Youth. Anyone under 30, any youth organization. Hint: you don’t have to be Ukrainian Canadian to get involved. We want to work with groups who are willing to work with us, whether you define yourself by ethnicity, Indigenous status, gender orientation, linguistic ability, community service or other element.
HOW
Contact the Community Animator for your province (yes, see the ‘Contact Us’ page). Get involved as a participant or volunteer. Bring your organization into the fold.
WHEN
You can start now, or watch your provincial page on this website for upcoming events. Become a volunteer, help our Animators develop events, or just come out and enjoy.
AND EVEN IF YOU DON’T GET INVOLVED
This project is designed to help you run you own event, even if you’re not directly involved with our project. Go to the lower left hand corner of this page. Click on ‘Events Handbook’- and there you are, a complete manual, with extensive checklists, on how to run a wide variety of events.
OH YES, WE HAVE A HASHTAG!
