Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival

I don’t think you can truly identify yourself as a Ukrainian Canadian unless you have experienced Canada’s National Ukrainian Festival. With that being said, the ‘Youth Engaging Youth’ Project participated in the weekend festivities between August 4-6th, 2017. The Festival’s annual parade was full of energy and excitement. The #yey150 project sponsored the Festval’s official […]

#yey150 Meets Paint Lake Provincial Park

Date posted: August 15, 2017

On Thursday, July 27th, youth from Plast Ukrainian Youth Association and the Boys & Girls Club of Thompson came together for a fun afternoon in Paint Lake Provincial Park! Plastunka, Maria Nevoit has written a little report on how the day unfolded.

This year Plast invited the Boys and Girls Club of Thompson to participate in our cultural exchange. Usually during Plast summer camps children do not have the opportunity to meet and make friends with children who are not in Plast, but this year everything was different. Together with young people from Thompson we were dancing Ukrainian dances, making Ukrainian traditional doll “motanka” and playing scavenger hunt! It was a day to remember! We, plastuny, had a unique opportunity to meet people who live way up North in Thompson, who come from various backgrounds and live through different experiences than ours. It was a true cultural exchange that will have a long-lasting impact on both the Girls and Boys Clubs of Thompson and Plast in Canada.

This event at Paint Lake Provincial Park was very successful in forming new friendships and relationships with youth from all across Canada. Thank you to Plast Ukrainian Youth Association and the Boys & Girls Club of Thompson for organizing and participating in such a memorable event. Special thanks goes out to Marta Hnatiw for all of her hard work, and to Ivas Zulyniak and Vera Chaykovska for leading the workshops.
