On August 13th, most of, if not all, of the community will be heading out to the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Village to enjoy Ukrainian Day. It will be a full day from 9:00am to 5:00pm!
This year, in the tradition of all our Canada 150 events, Ukrainian Day’s theme will be all about acknowledging our diversity. We have the Polish dance group, Polonez, and the Romanian dance group, Balada, joining us this year to enrich our festival. Also, we are humbled to announce that the Prince Charles Fiddlers will be performing at Ukrainian Day. They are a Metis group based out of Edmonton that engages the youth in the musical arts.
This Ukrainian Day is also special as we are commemorating the 125th anniversary of Ukrainians in Canada along with Canada’s 150th year of Confederation. Because of this, it is sure to be a celebration to remember.
Along with the performances mentioned above, we will also have performances from Shumka, Euphoria Band, and Korinnya Choir of Calgary. We will also have a visit to the historical village, children’s activities, village market and the Ukrainian Village Food Festival.
The day is sure to be full of fun for the whole family so be sure to get there early to be able to enjoy every last bit of it. And don’t forget to bring your lawn chair! Let your friends know that you’re attending by clicking here.
The organizers of Ukrainian Day are still looking for volunteers so if you are interested, be sure to follow this link and sign up for your slot! Volunteers get free admission to the village and if you volunteer for two or more hours you can get a free Ukrainian meal!
