Over the August long-weekend, August 5th to 7th, Edmonton will be bringing back Servus Heritage Festival for the 42nd year! Every year, this festival has hundreds of pavilions that represent cultures within our community. It is a weekend to recognize the multiculturalism that Canada has developed over the 150 years since Confederation.
UCC National has partnered with the UCC Edmonton branch to help organize the Ukrainian pavilion. At the pavilion there will be Ukrainian food, items for sale, ice cream and a photobooth to enjoy. We’ll also be hosting an arm wrestling competition between multiple pavilions. This competition will bring different cultures together to participate in a friendly game. There will also be a special guest from Ukraine who is an arm wrestling pro, be sure to come out and see who it is!!
There will be other pavilions to enjoy as well, such as Hawaiian, Indian, Polish, Jamaican and so many more that I wouldn’t be able to name them all! You really do need all three days to see every pavilion and experience what they have brought to the festival. Make sure you try all the tasty treats being offered, my personal favourite: mango on a stick.
The Ukrainian Pavilion is still looking for volunteers however, if you are interested please click here. Any help is greatly appreciated. If you are a post-secondary student, you are also eligible to win a scholarship by volunteering.
